Monday 30 April 7:00 - 9:45

Foxton's Explorer Scouts navigated us to the start of our walk.  Taking us from the North West corner of Foxton Village over a rain sodden field to the Grand Union Canal.

I introduced the group to a selection of artists who use walking in their work.

Chris Drury and Richard Long.
Hamish Fulton, and his recent slow walk behind Millennium Point in Birmingham and his summiting of Everest in 2009.
Alec FInlay and the Road North.
Marina Abramovic who walked the Great Wall of China.
Neal Beggs who walked from Nantes to the top of Mont Blanc.
The forthcoming Night Vision - a walk on the Cromford Canal.  A nocturnal walk conceived by Charles Monkhouse for Cargoes.

We all walked very slowly for 1000 m and had a go at being silent.

We got lost in time making tiny drawings by the edge of the canal.  Then a swift hike through the dark to the Locks to take photos with our head torches - great preparation for the Cargoes walk for Charles.  Another connection along the Cargoes route.  This one between the Foxton Explorer Scouts in Leicestershire to the Night Walk along the Cromford Canal section of this project on the 12th and 13th of May.

A big thank you to the Explorer Scouts and their Leaders for a lovely evening.
