Cargoes

Image and Artwork by Jennie Pedley

In Cargoes, artworks that have been created by artists and school-children, families and members of local communities will be conveyed along the waterways of the region by two narrow boats, with workshops and celebrations for the public to get involved at various stopping places.
Each artwork will celebrate the distinctiveness of the locality and the community in which it is created. Each times the boats dock, the works will be reinterpreted by local schools and community groups in an ever-expanding interpretation of community life in the East Midlands in 2012.
Among the artists creating the Cargoes are Jo Fairfax, Charles Monkhouse, Jennie Pedley, Michael Fairfax, Chrys Allen and Kathy Sandys.  Cargoes is a legacy project of the 2011 Breath of Fresh Air partnership developed for Igniting Ambition.
Watch out for Cargoes in Cromford, Northampton and Loughborough and at places in between, with a final celebration in Loughborough to coincide with the Olympic torch passing through the town on Tuesday 3 July.
