Its nearly show time! On Sunday 24th of July from 11 till 4, inside an old lime kiln at Millers Dale station near Tideswell, in the Peak District, I will be showing Shadows and Steam my new animated short film about Millers Dale. The film shows the steam trains at Millers Dale before the Beeching cuts closed the lines more than forty years ago. It has been an entertaining struggle to work out the best way to animate steam - cotton wool blobs in the Ivor the Engine style? Eventually I settled on drawing with sand, a lovely fluid medium for animation. Also showing will be the highlights of shadow performances I filmed with two two local primary schools, the films touch on the history of the area, the quarry, the lime kiln and the wildlife of this beautiful nature reserve.
